The latest update to BlackBerry’s messaging app brings a handful of new features, as well as bug fixes and improvements.
The big new feature is the addition of sticker packs to BBM for Android. Users will be able to choose from free or paid packs of 20-25 stickers, just like on competing services including Facebook Messenger or Line. The feature is self-explanatory, but if you still need a visual, BlackBerry kindly provided the video above. To start off, the paid packs available in the BBM Shop will cost $1.99; expect to see collections from brands like Shaun the Sheep and WWE.
Users of BBM can now send larger files over the app, as well as share photos and videos of larger sizes. The new limit is 16MB. In addition, BlackBerry has added picture sharing in group chats; previously, you could only share images in one-on-one conversations.
The usual bug fixes and performance tweaks round up this update, which is now available in the Play Store.
In related news, BlackBerry recently hinted that BBM could make it to the desktop, completing the cross-platform expansion of the service. Despite BlackBerry’s plummeting market share, BBM is still popular in a number of markets, including some large ones like Indonesia and South Africa.
