After the LG G Pad 8.3 and HTC One Google Play editions received their Android 4.4.2 KitKat updates, it’s time for the Samsung’s own Google Play edition handset, the Galaxy S4, to receive the same treatment.
In case you own the GT-I9505G Galaxy S4 model, you should already receive the 57.5MB Android 4.4.2 update for the handset (build version KOT49H.S0001.131204) – alternatively, you can manually check and see if an update is available to you, or grab it directly from Google’s servers (see Source link below).
The Android 4.4.2 update brings some fixes and improvements, but it also removes the App Ops security app, so if you have been using this unofficial tool to manage app permissions, you may want to stay on Android 4.4.1 for the time being.
Interestingly, LG, HTC and Samsung were quite fast with this Android update, which was only released for Nexus handsets a few days ago. Too bad that their regular devices do not get the same speedy treatment – although carriers also play their part in delaying software updates.
Have you updated your Galaxy S4 Google Play edition to Android 4.4.2?
