Google made the Chromecast even better for users that have purchased the affordable streaming dongle by optimizing Google Play Movies and Music to work with the device directly from the web browser on a PC.

That means Chromecast owners will be able to stream movies, TV shows and music from the Google Play Store. A “Cast” button will be available inside these two Google Play section, so users will only have to press it to send content to their big screen TV (see following screenshots for movies and music casting).

Before casting digital content from the Google Play Store to your TV, you should make sure you have the Google Cast Chrome extension installed on your browser.

As you can see, Google has been continuously updating the Chromecast to offer support more apps and therefore offer users more content streams. Earlier this week, the company brought 10 more apps to the dongle including Plex, Songza, Vevo and others.

Furthermore, the firmware of the device has also been updated with some welcomed cosmetic changes and the usual bug fixes.

Finally, Google is offering a very interesting Nexus 7 (2013) and Chromecast purchase option in the Play Store, which will net buyers a free $ 35 Google Play store credit, essentially making the Chromecast free.

If there’s one thing Google is yet to bring to the Chromecast that’s the ability of playing local content, but hopefully that’s coming as well.
